HIGH-MOUNTAIN CYCLING OR DRIVING LOOP
From June to September, connect the following high-mountain passes to make a 150km roller coaster loop that
rises and plunges along knife-edged ridge lines and has stupendous Alpine views. Check the weather first, and
don't attempt it at night. By car without stopping it takes three hours. A few summertime-only cafes serve lunch,
but you should carry water and snacks. Woe betide the carsick. Start in Colmars or Allos:
»D908 north over Col d'Allos (2247m); drop 1000m toward Barcelonnette.
»Ascend D902 south over Col de la Cayolle (2326m); descend D2202 to St Martin d'Entraunes (1009m).
»Ascend Col des Champs (2095m); descend into Colmars (1250m).
