Tour Philippe-le-Bel

King Philip commissioned the Tour Philippe le Bel, 0.5km outside Villeneuve, to control
traffic over Pont St-Bénézet to and from Avignon. There are steep steps spiral to the top
but climbers are rewarded with stunning river views.

mansion, this museum's masterwork is Enguerrand Quarton's Crowning of the Virgin
(1453), in which angels wrest souls from purgatory. Rounding out the collection are 16th-
