Driving in Provence-Côte d'Azur
Driving in France is on the right-hand side of the road; the steering-wheel is on the left-hand side of the car.
Marseille, Toulon and Nice are a driver's nightmare but outside of the big cities, motoring is generally a pleas-
ant affair and is an attraction in its own right in the most scenic places (Luberon, Gorges du Verdon, the Three
Corniches etc). Roads are in good condition, and traffic is light, except in July and August and during rush hour in
the more built-up areas.
Watch out for the treacherous 'priority to the right' rule ( Click here ) .
In Alpine areas, note that some roads can be cut off by snow in winter - ask before you set off. Negotiating the
hairpin bends of the smallest mountain roads can be hair-raising for inexperienced drivers.
