Sights & Activities
Marseille is divided into 16 arrondissements (districts). Sights concentrate around the
Vieux Port and Le Panier districts. Dynamic dockland redevelopment is transforming La
Joliette to the north.
The city's main thoroughfare, La Canebière stretches eastwards from the Vieux Port
towards the train station. Various morning markets fill cours Julien Offline map ( Notre
Dame du Mont-Cours Julien) , an elongated square with a forest of palm trees: fresh
flowers on Wednesday and Saturday, antique books alternate Saturdays, and stamps or an-
tique books on Sunday. Cafes on its western side cook up world cuisine.
Buy a cent-saving Marseille City Pass (one-/two-day €22/29) at the tourist office. It
covers admission to 15 museums, a city tour, unlimited public-transport travel, boat trips
and so on.
