walking, diving and snorkelling information. It also sells an island map marked with the
island's four main trails and guides (in French) to underwater fauna and flora. Its opening
hours coincide with boat arrivals.
Île du Levant
Île du Levant, an 8km strip of an island, has a split personality. Ninety percent of it is a
closed military camp, and the remaining pocket of
Héliopolis
(on the island's southwest-
ern tip) is a nudist colony.
The post office, cafes and hotels are clustered around the central square, place du Vil-
lage, 1km uphill from the port along rte de l'Ayguade. From place du Village a nature trail
leads east into the
Domaine des Arbousiers
, a nature reservation in the eastern part of the
colony sheltering rare island plants. The tourist office has information on guided tours.
Baring all is not obligatory except on sandy
Plage Les Grottes
, the main nudist beach
east of Port de l'Ayguade. From the port, walk in the direction of
Plage de Sable
Levant
along
Sentier Georges Rousseau
, a rocky coastal path. Signs reading 'Nudisme Intégral
Obligatoire' mark the moment you have to strip.
