rave reviews from travellers for its five-star hospitality and epic communal breakfasts
(juices, homemade pastries, breads, cheese, cold meats, eggs, you name it) served by the
pool. The location is great for exploring the area but the traffic noise may be off-putting
for those seeking relaxation.

gins; lunch/dinner menu €15.80/23.50, mains €16-28; lunch Mon-Sat, dinner Tue-Sat;
) At the heart of Mougins' old village, guarded by a mighty plane tree, Le Rendez-Vous
is one of the best-value restaurants you'll find in this neck of the woods. The sun-kissed
cuisine is fresh, generous and mostly sourced at the Marché Forville in Cannes: think mar-
inated sardines with sun-dried tomatoes or glacé nougat with lavender honey and citrus
coulis. Booking essential.
MODERN FRENCH
Le Mas Candille €€€
( 04 92 28 43 43; bd Clément Rebuffel, Mougins; menu of the day €69, mains €40-60;
lunch & dinner) Le Mas Candille's reputation is starting to travel as far as chef Serge
Gouloumès has: originally from Gascony (the foie gras tatin with armagnac is his trade-
mark dish), his culinary career has taken him to faraway climes, an experience that has en-
riched his Mediterranean cuisine with exotic flavours. The setting couldn't be more idyllic
either, with spectacular views of Grasse and the Alps.
The Mas Candille also offers cooking courses (four hours, €195), which include a tour
of Marché Forville in Cannes and advice from the restaurant's sommelier about matching
food and wine.
GASTRONOMIC
La Cave de Mougins
( www.lacavedemougins.com ; 50 av Charles Mallet, Mougins; 11am-11pm Tue-Sat)
The cellar of this fabulous wine bar is worth the detour, and not just for its hundreds of
vintages, but also for its stunning vaulted ceiling, events-packed calendar (tastings, meet-
the-winemakers evenings, little concerts etc) and atmospheric terrace. During the day, it
doubles up as a deli so that you can nibble on pâté and cheese platters with a glass of
wine.
