The Camargue
9 With its distinctive flat landscape, grasslands, wetlands and slanting light, the Camar-
gue ( Click here ) is unlike any other area of Provence. It's all about nature here: cycle
through salt marshes, spend a couple of hours birdwatching, canoe down the Petit Rhône,
or go horse-riding along the beach in the setting sun. The Camargue is also where former
Spanish influences over Provence are most keenly felt: to wit, the gitan festivities of May
and October, bullfights and Camargue's red rice.
