From June to Septem-
ber, Trans Côte d'Azur runs day trips to St-Tropez (adult/child €44/32 return) and Monaco
(€48.50/32), an ideal way to avoid congested roads to these popular spots and relax
among scenic landscapes instead. Panoramic cruises taking in the dramatic contrasts of
the Estérel's red cliffs, green forests and intense azure waters are another must (€26.50/
16.50).

Cannes is blessed with sandy beaches, although much of the stretch along bd de la Crois-
ette is taken up by private beaches. This arrangement leaves only a small strip of free sand
near the Palais des Festivals for the bathing hoi polloi; the much bigger
