Dublin's newest designer digs is impressive from the outside - the shell is
a stunning building created by Manuel Aires Mateus. The recession put paid to it for a
couple of years, but it finally opened in 2013 with 187 ultra-swish contemporary bed-
rooms, a ground-floor cocktail lounge and a decent restaurant. The rooftop bar has great
views.

The Dylan's baroque-meets-Scandinavian-sleek designer look has been a big hit, a
reflection perhaps of a time when too much was barely enough for the glitterati who
signed contracts over cocktails before retiring to crisp Frette linen sheets in the wonder-
fully appointed rooms upstairs.

A Victorian schoolhouse dating from 1861, this beautiful building
has been successfully converted into an exquisite boutique hotel that is (ahem) ahead of
its class. Its 31 cosy bedrooms, named after famous Irish people, all have king-sized beds,
big white quilts and loudly patterned headboards. The Canteen bar and patio bustles with
local business folk in summer.
