DRINKING & NIGHTLIFE
While you wouldn't traipse all the way out here just to get a drink, if you're in the
neighbourhood there are plenty of good spots to enjoy a pint or two.

(Jack Ryan's; 115 Haddington Rd) A staunch defender of the traditional pub aesthetic, Ryan's (as
it's referred to by its older clientele) has adjusted to the modern age by adding an outside
patio for good weather. Everything else, though, has remained the same, which is precisely
why it's so popular with flat-capped pensioners and employees from nearby Google.

(62 Upper Grand Canal St) A decent boozer that is a favourite with rugby fans who didn't get
tickets to the match - they congregate around the TVs and ebb and flow with each passage
of the game. It's also popular on Friday and Saturday nights.

KENNEDY'S

( 01-677 0626; 10 George's Quay; all city centre, Tara St) This is a proper traditional pub where
literally nothing has changed in 50 years, including some of the clientele. Tread softly and
speak even quieter so as not to disturb the contemplative atmosphere of a bar that seems
oblivious to what's happened to Dublin in the last 20 years.

(8 Poolbeg St; all city centre) This brilliant old boozer was established in 1782 and has barely
changed over the years. In fact, the last time it was renovated was when Christy Brown and
his rowdy clan ran amok here in the film My Left Foot . It has one of the finest pints of
Guinness in Dublin and a colourful crew of regulars. It's just off Fleet St, outside the east-
ern boundary of Temple Bar.

(2 Shelbourne Rd) A big sprawling bar with a variety of lounges that get packed when there's
something on at the Aviva.
