Abstract
Recent developments about the attractive properties of nanoparticles increase
interest about their applicability in biosensing areas resulting in great progress in
the development of nanomaterial-based biosensors. h e usage of metal nanopar-
ticle superstructures for the organization of electrochemical sensing devices is
an extremely promising prospect. Gold nanoparticle (AuNP) is a kind of metal
nanoparticle which can help proteins retain their biological activity upon adsorp-
tion. Because of its large surface area and good electronic properties, AuNP has
been extensively used in the construction of electrochemical sensors and biosen-
sors. h e aim of this chapter is to give detailed information about AuNP-based
electrochemical biosensors and their usage in medical application. For this pur-
pose, i rst of all the preparation of AuNP was given. h en AuNP modii ed elec-
trodes were examined and usage of these electrodes as biosensor transducers for
medical applications were discussed.

3.1 Introduction
It is very important to monitor health status, disease onset and progres-
sion, and the treatment outcome in health care research. On the other
hand, early disease diagnosis is crucial for patient survival and sensitive
and specii c methods are required for that. In recent years, the demand has
