In-Depth Information
» Dress up for dinner at one of Nassau's quieter, more intimate restaurants (no
Jell-O shots here!). Good picks include the low-lit, antique-filled Graycliff Res-
taurant ( Click here ) and the elegantly minimalist Dune ( Click here ) , floating
above the sand of Cabbage Beach.
» Pack a picnic of prosciutto, fresh mozzarella, organic chocolate and other gour-
met dainties at Balduccino Fine Foods ( Click here ), then zip across town to the
uncrowded western end of Cable Beach to eat.
» Sip lychee-infused martinis at Nobu ( Click here ) , then head upstairs to dance
the night away at Aura ( Click here ) , Paradise Island's swankest nightclub.
» Ride a horse along the beach at sunset with Happy Trails Stables ( Click here ).
Yeah, we know it's a cliché. But it's the good kind of cliché.
Compass Point Beach Resort HOTEL $$$
( 242-327-4500; www.compasspointbeachresort.com ; W Bay St, Gambier Village; r
$150-400; ) With a color scheme best described as jellybean Junkanoo, this
jumble of crayon-bright luxury huts is an automatic mood enhancer. The huts are on the
small side, but hip furniture, cute porches and astounding views make up for tight quar-
ters. And who's staying inside when Love Beach and a sweet poolside bar are steps away?
Monthly house parties draw local and international hipsters, as does the daily happy hour.
On Friday nights, keep an ear out for karaoke-singing Sean Connery, who's been known to
drop in from Lyford Cay.
Sandyport Beaches Resort HOTEL $$$
( 242-327-4279; www.sandyport.com ; W Bay St; r $200, condos $300-600; )
Town houses are airy and modern at this resort/residential home complex, but ongoing
construction and an un-scenic suburban location detract from the ambiance. The beach is
across the street.
Paradise Island
Those who choose to stay within Paradise Island's magic bubble do so at a price - rooms
are at least 50% more here than in downtown Nassau or Cable Beach. But for those craving
all-inclusive, nonstop vacation fun, this is your place. Streets are safe and walkable, and
free buses make the loop from hotel to hotel. Atlantis dominates the scene, both literally
and figuratively, but several other properties offer rooms that are more budget friendly but
still have access to Atlantis' amenities.
