Talk about dramatic entrances: getting to this extraordinary B&B requires climbing steep
stone stairs through a cliff-side tunnel to emerge into a tropical garden like something out
of a Merchant Ivory film. The plantation-style house has an airy globetrotting glamour:
burnished wood, whitewashed walls, vintage Orientals. Guests take breakfast on the spa-
cious deck overlooking the ocean, lounge on outdoor daybeds, or swim in the lagoon-style
pool with its rock grotto. The restaurant, which is open to the public, reflects the German
owner's international flair - duck breast with brandied fruits, salmon in vodka cream.
