Planning
BABIES & TODDLERS
If visiting the Out Islands, be sure to pack plenty of diapers, formula or other necessities,
as grocery stores are few and ill-stocked. Many larger hotels and resorts offer babysitting
services, but infants may not be eligible. Be aware that Bahamian women rarely breastfeed
or change diapers in public.
KIDS SIX TO 12
Check ahead to make sure your accommodations are kid-friendly - some smaller hotels
and resorts only allow children 12 or 14 and up. Look for resorts offering kids' clubs - min-
icamps full of video games, toys and art supplies to keep Junior busy while you get some
quality grown-up time. Kids 12 and under are generally allowed to sleep in their parents'
rooms for free. If you have multiple kids, rental apartments and villas are often a good bet.
TEENS
Teens are generally treated as adults in the Bahamas, so you may have to pay extra to have
them sleep in your room. While we're sure your kids would never attempt such a thing, be
aware that the drinking age in the Bahamas is 18, but is rarely enforced - a mature-looking
15 or 16 year old could easily be served at a bar or nightclub.
