away from town at Lochabar Bay, Gems has a wonderfully secluded location and its
own great beach. Spacious studio apartments and little villas have sponge-painted wooden
walls, tile floors, a kitchenette and wide French doors that open to a patio facing the bay,
all with the beautiful white-sand beach just a step or two away.

Rowdy Boy's Bar & Grill

building overlooking the sea, this airy and gleaming restaurant is one of the best on the
island, with a far more interesting menu (pan roasted mahi-mahi, seared tuna steaks) than
most you'll find here.

(Flying Fish Marina, Clarence Town; mains $14-17; 11:30am-8pm daily) This tiny out-
door harborside bar and restaurant serves up cheap sandwiches ($4 to $7) as well as steaks,
seafood and fish dishes. It's a great sundowner spot too and popular with the marina crowd.
The Forest

also doubles as the area's hotspot with live music and dancing at weekends.

The final 15-miles of the Queen's Hwy will take you past three exquisite

churches
, whitewashed and painted in trademark blue, in
Dunmore
, the wonderfully

.
Also just north of the church at Dunmore are the gates to some overgrown
plantation
ruins
, named for a former governor of the Bahamas who had an estate producing sisal,
cotton, and pineapples. You can follow a dirt track half a mile to the ruined hilltop mansion.
