C-Shells STUDIOS $

five gleaming white units just a short wander from the beach all come equipped with a kit-
chen, DVD player and a front and back terrace. This is a very friendly place and a great
bargain option.
Long Island Breeze Restaurant INTERNATIONAL $$
( 242-333-0170; Salt Pond; mains $10-25; lunch Tue-Sun, dinner Thu-Sat; ) The
attractive restaurant at this resort is open to the public and makes a great spot for lunch
out on the terrace by the sea. The menu runs from steaks and sandwiches to lobster dishes,
catch of the day and pork chops. They ask non-guests to reserve for dinner.
There are two large and well-stocked supermarkets in Salt Pond, both on the Queen's Hwy
near to the Long Island Breeze Resort.
South Long Island
There is a lot to see and enjoy down this end of the island, with caves, some gorgeous
beaches, and supposedly the world's deepest blue hole (663ft) leading to a vast underwater
cavern and magnificent cove. The soaring church spires of Clarence Town is another at-
traction, as is nearby Lochabar Bay with yet another vast blue hole and a superb white-sand
beach.
DEADMAN'S CAY AREA
Deadman's Cay is the site of Long Island's second airport. There is no discernible center
to the town, but Max's Conch Bar & Grill is the next best thing if you want friendly gossip
and information.
Sights & Activities
History buffs might enjoy the overgrown ruins of Grays Plantation , 2 miles north of
Lower Deadman's Cay near Grays.
Lower Deadman's Cay is dominated by St Athanatius Church , which dates from 1929.
Cartwrights Caves , near the settlement of Cartwrights, immediately south of Dead-
man's Cay, were once used by Lucayan Indians. Harmless bats now live in the 150ft-long
caves. They are half a mile east of the main road - look for the sign. Hamilton's Cave , at
the hamlet of Pettys, 4 miles southeast of Deadman's Cay, is 1500ft long and is one of the
