January
The first half of the month, which coincides with American winter vacation, is busy
and crowded. Weather is warm in the day, crisp at night and locals are still buzzing
from all the Junkanoo festivities.
NEW YEAR'S REVELRY
New Year's Day brings country-wide Junkanoo festivities, a kaleidoscope of masked dan-
cers, music, parades and all-around high spirits. Nassau and Grand Bahama have the wildest
parties, while Out Island celebrations are more low key. Nassau also has a spectacular parade
down Bay St.
March
The weather's balmy, though still a tad chilly at night. Spring Break brings hoards of
Jell-O shot-loving American college students to Nassau and Grand Bahama for a week
of revelry. Whether this is heaven or hell is a matter of taste and age.
FISHING SEASON ON ANDROS
While high season begins to wind down in most of the country, Andros' busy time is just
heating up. Fishing is best in early spring, so book your bonefishing lodge well ahead of
time.
BACARDI RUM BILLFISH TOURNAMENT
This three-day fishing tournament brings hundreds of competitive big game fishermen and
-women to Grand Bahama's Port Lucaya. Look out for lots of sunburned faces and rum-
fueled parties.
