History
The history of the Bahamas is a colorful story of Spanish piracy, African culture and British
rule. While Nassau bears the most obvious traces of the past, with colonial buildings and
ruined 18th-century forts, most of the islands have unique historical sights, from crumbling
Spanish churches to caves once inhabited by the Lucayan people.
Downtown Nassau The past comes to life in ornate colonial buildings, imposing stone
cathedrals and colorful pirate museums ( Click here )
