Bus
Buses depart from and return to George Town daily via Emerald Bay ($3 one way) and Rol-
leville ($5). Ask at the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism for a bus schedule. While we don't
recommend hitchhiking, it can be a more reliable way of getting around, and it's very com-
mon for locals to pick people up on the roadside.

Stocking Island & Rolle Cay
Stocking Island, population 7, is a 600-acre, pencil-thin island lined with gorgeous beaches,
about a mile offshore from Great Exuma. It's pleasingly remote and makes for a great day
trip from George Town. You can go snorkeling, hike through some excellently maintained
trails and enjoy a meal at the boisterous Chat n Chill Bar & Grill. The best snorkel spots
are located at the cuts between Stocking Island and Elizabeth Island and between Elizabeth
Island and Guana Cay.
Mystery Cave
is a 400ft-deep blue hole on the Atlantic side and is said to be one of the
few living intertidal stromatolite reefs in the world (the other major one is near Perth, Aus-
tralia); a living fossil - dating back 3½ million years. Highborne Cay stromatolites (living

Peace & Plenty Beach Club (see right ) will rent snorkel gear ($15 per day) and sail-
boards ($15/30 per half-/full day) to day-trippers, as well as small sailboats and paddle-
boats ($25 per half-day).
There are no roads on the island and access is by boat. For information about ferries to
