chants' well-preserved old white clapboard houses nestle on the hillside east of Queen's
Hwy, where royal poincianas blaze vermilion in spring.
Four miles south of Governor's Harbour, sleepy Palmetto Point is a spread-out village
of fisherman's cottages mixed with expat-owned second homes. It's home to some of the
area's better restaurants and hotels.

A stroll along the harborfront passes St Patrick's Anglican Church and cemetery; the his-
toric, pink Commissioner's Office ; and the lovely old Haynes Library (1897).
there are some beautiful little beaches over the hill on the atlantic shore, where the azure
seas lazily drift onto pink sands and where you can easily while away a day or three. Club
Med Beach ( Click here ), named after the long-gone resort, regularly pops up on 'World's
Best Beaches' lists.

In central Governor's Harbour, this 200-year-old colonial complex is clustered around the
owner's carefully tended orchid garden. Three homey cottages are decked out in pink and
lavender, with an eclectic mix of vintage furniture and shelves of dog-eared paperbacks.
Cupid's Cottage has waterfront views and a full kitchen, Hunnypot is a tidy little studio,
and Flora's Cottage is a charmingly creaky house. The liquor store's right around the corner
- grab a bottle for cocktails by the mini waterfall on the patio.

Eleuthera, even the most charming accommodations tend to have a worn-in feel. Not so
