Landing BOUTIQUE HOTEL $$$
( 242-333-2707; www.harbourislandlanding.com ; Bay St, Dunmore Town, r from $200;
) It's 1926. You're the guest at the backwater island home of a British Empire
functionary and his artistic-minded wife. You sleep beneath a white canopy in a simple
gray-lavender room with creaking floors. There's little decor besides a few Picasso-esque
sketches on the wall and a cut palm frond in a glass of water on top of the old mahogany
vanity, but the way the sunlight plays across the walls is just exquisite. To amuse yourself,
you swim in the small pool surrounded by rustic stone walls, or stand on the sloping veran-
da watching the villagers walk to and fro. Lovely.
Ocean View Club BOUTIQUE HOTEL $$$
( 242-333-2276; www.oceanviewclub.org ; east end of Court Rd, on the right, Dunmore
Town; r $325-425; ) Staying at this funky old beach house feels like crashing
at the weekend home of an arty friend. Each room is painted a different jewel tone and
filled with mix-matched antiques, folk art paintings, and charming random touches - a vin-
tage tuba on the wall, a statue of Chairman Mao. The small lobby has a self-serve bar and
shelves full of dog-eared photography books - grab one and relax on the Spanish tiled patio
overlooking the ocean.
Tingum Village HOTEL $$

ste $160-250; ) One of Briland's few mid-price accommodations, friendly Tingum Vil-
lage has a range of spick-and-span rooms and suites surrounding a hillside garden. The
cheaper rooms are simple, tiled and dim, while the fancier suites have stylish touches like
stone accent walls and in-room tubs. Bonus: the on-site restaurant, Ma Ruby's, serves one
of the world's truly great cheeseburgers. Town and the beach are both short walks away.
Coral Sands Hotel RESORT $$$

tages $750-950; ) The island's biggest resort, sprawling across 14 manicured
seaside acres, has recently undergone a luxury facelift. Rooms, which are spread across
several buildings, have a crisp British colonial chic: mahogany, simple white linens, ethnic
print accent pillows. The nicest have straight-shot ocean views directly from the beds. The
