Sights
Scuba divers who first explored Uncle Charlie's Blue Hole were quite astonished to find
sharks swimming in the narrow caverns. The bottomless sinkhole, hidden deep in the pine
forest, was made famous by Jacques Cousteau, who dumped dye in the water to prove that
it connected to the ocean via underwater channels. Today local kids use a dangling rope
swing to splash their way into the hole's black waters. To get here, follow the signs from
Queen's Hwy and drive down a short dirt road.
At Conch Sound , just south of Nicholl's Town, there's a small blue hole just offshore
at the public beach - bring your snorkel gear and explore.
there's a nice beach west of Morgan's Bluff , and an eerie, shipwreck-filled harbor.
If you believe local lore, Henry Morgan, the wily Welsh pirate, hid his treasure in a cave
- Henry Morgan's Cave - about 30yd from the road (it's well signed). Bring a flashlight.
At the island's northwestern tip, Red Bays is the only west-coast settlement in Andros.
The rundown, isolated village is inhabited by descendants of the Seminole Indians and run-
away slaves who fled Florida in the 17th and 18th centuries. A few locals earn an income
from straw weaving, using practices passed down from Seminole forebears - keep your
eyes peeled for women selling baskets from their front lawn.

Sleeping & Eating
Credit cards may not be accepted at some lodgings, so check when booking. Food can be
hard to find, as restaurants are usually home-based and fairly casual (read: completely ir-
regular) in their opening hours. Always ask a local, who will likely direct you toward a
roadside BBQ shack or his own granny's kitchen.
