( 242-373-9550; www.pelicanbayhotel.com ; Port Lucaya Marina; r from $190;
) Lucaya's chicest property rocks an upscale British colonial vibe, with a series of in-
terconnected villas decked out with punchy tropical colors and white shutters. Rooms con-
tinue the theme, with lots of dark wood, canopy beds and private balconies. Though the
hotel's not oceanfront, the views of Bell Channel from the pool deck are lovely at sunset.
The beach itself is right across the road. The hotel's open-air restaurant, Sabor, is one of
the island's slickest, attracting a nightly crowd of see-and-be-seen types.
Seagrape Bed & Breakfast B&B $$
( 242-373-1769; www.seagrapehouse.com ; Sea Spray Ln; r incl breakfast $95; )
Run by a friendly Canadian-American couple, this low-key B&B is just a 10-minute walk
to the heart of Port Lucaya, but feels a million miles away. The two simple guestrooms have
cable TV and shelves of used novels; you'll feel like you're staying at a friend's suburban
house. The owners, both ex-divers, are always at the ready with restaurant suggestions or
offers to borrow a bike. If big resorts are not your thing, this is your best bet.

hotel is popular with divers, who can book package room-and-scuba deals with the on-site
dive center.

ings: the upscale Marlin, the midrange Coral, and the dated but budget-friendly Ocean. The
all-suite setup is good for families and longer-term visitors, with one-bedrooms and studi-
os. The nicer units have sleek, contemporary kitchens with granite counters and in-room
tubs (romantic!). A huge, grotto-style pool with waterslides will keep the kids occupied,
and grownups can nip over on the hourly ferry to Port Lucaya Marketplace for cocktails or
dinner.
