In-Depth Information
One-way rates to/from the airport are as follows: Cable Beach $18; downtown Nassau and
Prince George Wharf $27; and Paradise Island $32.
Taxi sightseeing rates are usually in the vicinity of $50 per hour, which makes car hire a
very attractive option!
Bicycle
Biking in traffic-clogged Nassau is not recommended, while East and West Bay Sts are
deathtraps of blind curves and speeding minibuses. Paradise Island is safer but has no bike
rental shops; if you're keen on biking, ask if your hotel can arrange a rental.
Boat
Small ferries or water taxis (round trip $6, every 15 minutes or when full, from 8am to
6pm) ply the route between the downtown Nassau cruise ship dock and Paradise Island.
You'll see the signs or be hustled aboard by touts.
Car & Scooter
You really don't need a car to explore Nassau, Cable Beach and Paradise Island or to get to
their beaches. However if you intend to explore New Providence, it's worth saving the taxi
fare to and from Nassau by hiring a car at the airport. Rates start at about $80, per day, with
an extra $15 for collision damage insurance. For information on road rules, see Click here
.
The following companies have rental booths at the airport:
Avis (
242-377-7121)
Budget (
242-377-9000)
Dollar (
242-377-8300)
Hertz ( 242-377-8684)
Several local companies also rent cars that are cheaper, from about $50 daily. Ask your
hotel to suggest a company or try Orange Creek Rentals (
242-325-0005; Bougain-
villea Dr).
Scooters (from about $60 per day) are widely available and can be found outside most ma-
jor hotels. The same warnings we gave about biking apply to scooting! Try Bowcar Scoot-
er Rentals ( 242-328-7300; www.bahamasscooterrentals.com ; Welcome Centre, Prince
George Wharf) , which has pick-up at this location, on Cable Beach, or will deliver the
scooters to hotels island-wide.
