GETTING THERE & AWAY
For information on international flights to the Bahamas and Nassau please refer to Click
here . For travel information between Nassau and other Bahamian islands, please refer to
those destinations.
GETTING AROUND
Historic downtown Nassau is 10 blocks long and four blocks wide and faces north toward
Paradise Island and Nassau Harbour. The Paradise Island bridge is about a mile east of
downtown, while Cable Beach begins about 3 miles west of downtown. The island's main
drag, Bay St, traverses the entire north shore of the island, passing right through downtown
Nassau.
To/From the Airport
Lynden Pindling International Airport (
242-377-7281) lies 10 miles west of down-
town.
There are no buses to or from the airport, as the taxi-drivers' union has things sewn up. Bus
12 does come to the airport's outskirts, but not to the terminals - if you're hell-bent on tak-
ing the bus, ask a local where to stand. A few hotels do provide shuttle services, and taxis
also line the forecourts of hotels and the area outside the arrivals lounge of the airport. Call
the day ahead to book a taxi ( 242-323-5111/4555) . Rates are fixed by the government
and displayed at the airport on the wall by the taxi-rank; all destination rates are for two
people with standard luggage (each additional person costs $3).
