» Stock up on groceries. This means a) taking a taxi to Nassau to stock up at
City Market supermarket chain (one on Village Rd, one in Cable Beach), or b)
scrounging what you can at the overpriced, under-stocked convenience stores on
Paradise Island. Either way, a few boxes of cereal and peanut butter sandwiches
will save big bucks to put towards fancy dinners or blackjack.
» By the same token, buy your own liquor and mixers for cocktails on your bal-
cony.
» Look out for promotional deals on bars and nightclubs (free appetizers at Nobu,
$20 admission to Aura nightclub etc).
» If you want to go into downtown Nassau, just walk across the bridge and catch
the $1 jitney rather than take a pricey taxi.
» Enjoy what's free - wandering Marina Village, watching Hollywood hits in the
Atlantis Theater (complimentary for guests), strolling Versailles Gardens, loun-
ging on Cabbage Beach, watching the dolphin shows from the snack bar at Dol-
phin Cay. Atlantis also offers free-for-guests activities like tennis clinics, as well
as regular 'free slots' days at the casino.

'bigger-is-better' celebrity chef variety. Those wishing to DIY it can try the ill-stocked gro-
cery store in the Paradise Island Shopping Center on Casino Dr.

undulating stone walls, a stadium-sized open kitchen with enough hammered copper to
keep the Bahamas in pennies for a decade. Clientele are moneyed and glam, dining on New
Mexican spice-rubbed pork tenderloin and sipping top-drawer margaritas. The menu makes
a few nods to the Bahamas - crispy conch with pepper-mango relish, curried halibut, a to-
die-for pineapple upside-down cake with caramelized rum sauce.
Nobu JAPANESE $$$
( 242-363-3000; www.atlantis.com ; At- lantis Royal Towers; mains $18-48; dinner)
Dot-com bubble? Recession? What? The carefree, flashy 1990s are still alive and sipping
saketinis at Nobu - think investment bankers in Armani suits, models in stilettos, lots of
