Not only do game engines drive the game, but they're also important for game
development. Engines contain tools and components that handle the various
basic elements of a game such as drawing the visuals, controlling the sound,
and moving things around, and let the developer focus on generating data that
gets plugged into the engine, like models/images, text, sound effects, and so on.
A single engine can be used for a wide variety of games; it's the data put into it
that makes the game unique.
