High ethanol yield has been achieved: 4.7m 3 /ha for sweet sorghum stalk vs . 3.7m 3 /ha for corn,
3.8m 3 /ha for sugarcane, 1.5m 3 /ha for sweet sorghum grains and 4.8m 3 /ha for bagasse. Straw
from agricultural crops results in 600-700 million tonnes in China annually. About 1.7 million
tonnes of livestock and fowl manure is produced annually from the breeding industry in China.
The most important food crops in China are in the north wheat with a total of 114.5 million
tonnes produced in 2009, and rice in the south with 197 million tonnes produced in the same year.
