(I particularly recommend the complex Southwestern salad with avocado,
chicken, tomato, and tortilla strips, $13). In fact, you'll find a high standard of
ingredients throughout, from the Angus beef used in the burgers, to the oversize
shrimp featured in the spot-on scampi ($16) and artisanal-tasting chocolates used
in the desserts. Speaking of desserts, as at the Cheesecake mothership, they're
worth holding a bit of stomach-room for, especially the homey, warm chocolate
chip cookies ($5.50) and, of course, the cheesecake (especially the dulce de leche
version, $5.95). To keep costs in check, share plates and consider ordering one of
the lunch specials ($8.95) or a breakfast dish; in a play for the early-bird crowd,
these are held over until 2pm for breakfast dishes and 5pm on the lunch specials.
There's also an appealing kids menu.
$$-$$$ Another superb option at the Venetian, which very few people seem to
know about, is the tiny cafe tucked into the Canyon Ranch Health Spa. Called,
appropriately enough, the Canyon Ranch Café 555 (in the Venetian; % 702/
414-3633; www.venetian.com; daily 7am-6pm; AE, DISC, MC, V), it's an oasis of
healthy eating amid the gluttony that's as much the “Sin” in Sin City as anything
else. I raved earlier about the breakfasts (p. 71), but the lunches are just as tooth-
some, surprisingly so considering their low calorie and fat count (which is listed
