but there's no better place in town for high-energy kids to blow off steam.
See p. 41.
Luxor: What kid wouldn't want to sleep in a giant pyramid? This place just
has a bigger cool factor than most, along with a great arcade and pool
area, and occasionally reasonable rates. See p. 32.
MGM Grand: What's outside is the lure here for families, and what's out-
side is terrific: waterslides, lazy rivers, and six, count 'em, six swimming
pools. See p. 34.
Monte Carlo: Also gives good pool. And if its pools aren't quite as whiz-
bang as those at the MGM Grand, it makes up for it in lower room rates,
and a layout that allows you to get to your hotel room without having to
tramp through the casino. See p. 31.
Sam's Town: Kids will love this place, with its Disney-esque animatronic
animals, its bowling alley, nice pool, and movie theater. Good onsite
short-term daycare and reasonable rates are what's going to get the
grown-ups to agree. See p. 55.
South Point: Cowboy and Indian time. Children will enjoy the onsite eques-
trian arena and wading pool. Daycare, large rooms, a movie theater, and
bowling alley add to the appeal, despite its distant location. See p. 62.
Terrible's: With one of the only wading pool in Vegas, and among the low-
est rates, Terrible's is particularly appropriate for budget-conscious parents
of toddlers. See p. 55.

route. With rental homes you get a kitchen so you don't have to spend too
much on restaurant meals (that finicky youngsters end up leaving on their
plates). For the price of one hotel room you can often rent a house with
several bedrooms, allowing you to shut your door at day's end for some
quiet time with your spouse. And you'll often have private access to all
kinds of amusements, such as pool tables, private pools, board games
(yup, many rental homes stock 'em), VCRs, DVDs, and even, sometimes,
Nintendo systems. See p. 17 for more on why you might want to consider
a rental.
HOTELS EAST OF THE STRIP
When you go off the Strip and outside of Downtown, you're confronted with
Vegas' true character: an endlessly repeating mix of gated communities, low rise
apartment buildings and hotels, and strip malls. Mostly strip malls. And every
