In-Depth Information
If you listen to true canyon connoisseurs, a helicopter is the way to go. This way
you actually get to fly down into the canyon, gleaning an even better appreciation
for its size and depth. Helicopter rides run around $300 and generally last about
4 hours, including lunch at the bottom of the canyon. Again, a reputable guide is
Papillon ( % 888/635-7272 or 702/736-7243; www.papillon.com). Many environ-
mentalists feel, however, that the noise from helicopters is damaging to the local
wildlife, so you'll have to search your own conscience if you choose this option.
To get there: If you drive, take U.S. Highway 93 South (over the Hoover Dam)
to Kingman, Arizona, then east on I-40 to Williams. At the Arizona Highway 64
junction, turn left (north) and proceed to the south entrance of Grand Canyon
National Park.
