others), Coast properties (Gold Coast, Suncoast, and others), Arizona

Poker
With poker you want to be playing with more tourists than locals. You
don't really want to go away from the Strip and sit down at a poker game
with Johnny Omaha over here, who plays this game 6 out of 7 days a week.
You really want to look for situations to be playing in the bigger, better-
known poker rooms on the Strip.
Recommendation: Look for small- to mid-level limits, on and off the
Strip. Look out for no-limit games, which have become popular (and can
start with a $2 bet only to shoot up to $200). Some of Curtis' favorites are
the Palms, Flamingo, Excalibur, and Texas Station.
Sports books
Sports books are a matter of taste. Your sports books are really the kind of
place where you're going to find a generic product. And at almost all sports
books you're betting $110 to win $100 on the base value, and that doesn't
change very much. Where you're likely to find deals are in the places such
as the Coast casinos or the Station casinos (both chains of locals' joints)
during big events. They will change it so you pay $105 to win $100 instead
of $110 to win $100. It makes a significant difference, and just about cuts
the house edge in half.
Recommendation: The Hilton offers good deals and is the original super
sports book. The director is a guy named Jay Kornegay, who's very innova-
tive. This is the place you go during the Super Bowl, and you'll see 192 dif-
ferent proposition bets—“Will Ben Roethlisberger throw more passes than
Kobe Bryant makes three-point shots?” He's really good at that kind of stuff.
Beyond these tips, joining Curtis' Las Vegas Advisor is one of the smartest

poker games always require one or more players to make a forced bet in order to
start off the pot that players will be contesting. Once the cards have been dealt,
players can fold, bet, raise, or check. Folding means that your cards aren't worth
investing money in. If you fold, place your cards on the table face down. If you
think your cards are worth an investment, you can bet. Another option is to
