Gambling Etiquette
u Understand the rules of the game and know the minimum bet.
u Only buy and cash in chips between hands.
u If you hold your cards, do so with one hand. Always handle dice with
one hand.
u When cards are dealt face up, don't touch them.
u Respect the dealer and other players.
u If you leave a table game for a bathroom break, you can ask the
dealer to watch your seat. But if you're going to be gone longer than
a few minutes, free up your spot so that others can play. Note: Some
casinos will take responsibility for your chips when you're on a break,
but many won't. If the casino in which you are playing won't guard
chips, never leave the table without taking them along. Ask the
dealer to “color up” (converting your chips into the highest denomi-
nations possible) and take them along with you.
u Stack your chips with the highest denomination on the bottom and
the lowest on top. The dealer can calculate your wager more quickly
and potential chip thieves (it can happen) won't be able to get at
your more expensive chips.
u Don't give advice unless someone asks for it.
u Don't use your cell phone or other electronic devices while playing.
u Some slot players use more than one machine at a time. Make sure
no one's playing at a machine before sitting down.
u Remember to tip the dealer and the cocktail waitress. Note that many
players choose to place bets on behalf of the dealer as a form of tip.
If you want to do that, just let the dealer know.
u Never hand the dealer money or touch the dealer in any way. Wagers
are placed on the table, never handed to the dealer.
u When playing table games, always signal to the dealer your wishes
with your hands as well as your voice. It's required so that casino
security can record player decisions to avoid accusations of miscon-
duct or collusion.
There's also a Field Bet, which is for one roll only and pays 2 to 1 for a 2 or
12, and even money for 3, 4, 9, 10, and 11 (experienced craps players rarely take
this bet). A Big 6 and 8 bet pays even money if the 6 or 8 are rolled before the 7.
This only pays even money and the house has a huge advantage (9.1%). The Any
7 bet pays 4 to 1 if the 7 is thrown directly following the wager. The odds of actu-
ally getting this, however, are 5 to 1, so you should avoid this bet.
Betting on Any Craps pays 7 to 1 if a 2, 3, or 12 is rolled. And if you play a
Place Bet, that is, select one of the big numbers 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10, you're betting
that one of those numbers will turn up before a 7 is rolled. This bet lasts only for
