a lounge within the Pure lounge that hosts the pop/burlesque/underwear-
ing act of the famous Pussycat Dolls. What started in 1993 as a group of
friends forming a dance troupe has grown into an all-out phenomenon, land-
ing them their own spot in Vegas. They regularly draw in celebrities to join
them, including such well-known sex kittens as Eva Longoria, Carmen
Electra, and Ashlee Simpson strutting alongside as the Dolls sing and dance,
occasionally dipping into bathtubs, or hanging from swings.
Though the club would like to be known for its burlesque, at Tangerine

club a gimmick. The numbers are far more understated than at the other
two spots. Throughout the night the DJs stop spinning and a three-piece
band behind the bar plays strip-tease music as a dancer struts out and
starts shedding clothing. The crowd watches, but seems to do so because
their music has stopped, not because they're terribly interested in the
show. Because Tangerine has a modern, minimalist design, the vintage
nature of the burlesque isn't the best fit here. In addition to dancing and
burlesque, the outside patio (which is the club's highlight—it's huge, and
has a separate bar serving various specialty drinks) overlooks Siren's Cove,
which is where the Sirens of TI show happens throughout the day. With the
old nautical theme, the white leather decor, and the burlesque, Tangerine
is trying to be too many things at once.
highlight. Looking out on the city, this large area has an additional bar and go-go
dancers who actually appear to be suspended along the skyline. The recently
added 40-ton staircase connects to the 50th-floor patio, and those afraid of
heights should avoid descending these steps. Like Studio 54 and other “vintage”
clubs, the clientele is diverse and less snotty than other hot spots.

thanks to the publicity, this club is consistently flooded with people. It's certainly
not my first choice. Besides having to wait in a massive line (which actually has
someone taking drink orders to make the wait more palatable), the club is pretty
basic. It has a low-frills warehouse approach, with a large, open, main room that has
none of the enclaves and nooks that more modern clubs have embraced. Though
there are many roped off VIP areas, the bulk of the club is a three-story space bor-
dered by walls of water. The dance floor is surrounded by a moat and is consistently
