In-Depth Information
For the latest Paris Hilton sighting in Vegas, go to Pure 555 (in Caesars
Palace; % 877/427 - 7243 or 702/731 - 7873; www.purelv.com; cover $ 20 women,
$ 30 men; Tues and Fri-Sun 10pm-4am). This is where the entire hotel-owning fam-
ily comes to party, among other celebrities. Here's a sampling of 1 week of parties
that Pure has hosted: a CD release party for Paris Hilton; a birthday party for
America's Next Top Model Adrianne Curry; and a gathering featuring the “Top Ten
LA Girls of MySpace.com.”
Whether the Hiltons are an incentive or deterrent is up to you. But it certainly
says something about the club's demographic: trendy, image-oriented, and, some-
times a little too rambunctious—this is the only place I've ever been where some-
one tried to start a fight with me, after my drink (vodka and soda—clear) spilled
on her. Fortunately, the club, at 36,000 square feet, was big enough for both of
us to carry out our evenings in peace.
With four different rooms and a different DJ and sound system in each (play-
ing different types of music—house, rock, re-mix and hip-hop), this is like one-
stop shopping for clubgoers—there's something for everyone. One of the most
appealing spots here is the rooftop patio, where you arrive by either glass elevator
or winding staircase. “The Terrace,” as it's called, hosts a bar, VIP cabanas, and a
stunning panoramic view of the Las Vegas Strip. The Pussycat Dolls Lounge is
also located here and you'll have access to both when you enter (see box on
Burlesque bars).
NORTH STRIP LOUNGES/CLUBS
If Cinderella were to pick a nightclub to visit, it would be Tryst 55 (in Wynn Las
Vegas; % 888/320 - 9966 or 702/770 - 3375; www.wynnlasvegas.com; cover $ 30;
Thurs-Sun 10pm-4am). The interior is sheer fairytale decadence, from the marble
staircase leading down to its mirrored entrance and red, velvet walls, marble
tables, and alligator skin booths. This is the most upscale club in Las Vegas and
one of the most difficult to get into. But once you make it in, it's easier to navi-
gate than most clubs because its exclusivity keeps it less crowded. The patio is a
highlight, with a 90-foot waterfall cascading into a lagoon, which is topped by a
dance floor that starts inside and extends out over the water. The music is a mix-
ture—top-40, hip-hop, mash-ups, and house—and keeps the large dance floor in
motion. Tryst is a good spot for celebrity sightings.
LOUNGES EAST OF THE STRIP
With its dark interiors, mirrored wall and crystal chandeliers, Body English 55
(in the Hard Rock Hotel; % 800/HRD-ROCK or 702/693 - 4000; www.bodyenglish.
com; cover $ 30 men, $ 20 women, local ladies free, Sun free with Nevada ID;
Fri-Sun 10:30pm-4am) is the kind of club Anne Rice would enjoy, if Anne Rice
likes hip-hop, rock, and house music as she gets her gothic on. Located in the
depths of the Hard Rock Hotel, beneath The Joint, you descend a dimly lit stair-
case to get to this club, which might best be described as an elegant dungeon. It's
one of the few spots in town in a basement (a desert isn't the best medium for
underground structures), and it appeals to a particularly beautiful set of partiers.
The dance floor is on the bottommost part of the club, and patrons can be
voyeurs, peering down from above. There are also secret nooks and VIP rooms
masked with mirrors, adding an even more mysterious allure to the club. Lines
