Family-Friendly Shows
If you're looking for a fun show for the kids, without the threat of a “Janet
Jackson” moment, here are six that you can book worry free:
Lance Burton (p. 195): Las Vegas' top magician will mesmerize even the
youngest theatergoers (my 3-year-old sat like a stone throughout his
entire show). Plus he brings kids up to the stage as assistants and if that
doesn't excite 'em, I don't know what will.
World's Greatest Magic Show (p. 195): Much cheaper than Lance, with
eight magicians for the price of one, and ample magician assistant oppor-
tunities for the young 'uns, this is an excellent alternative for those who
need a more budget-conscious option.
Mac King (p. 188): An afternoon comedy-magic show that will delight
both kids and adults, it's another cheapie. Big bonus here: Mac meets
everyone and signs autographs after the show.
Tournament of Kings (p. 193): Horses, knights in shining armor, and per-
mission to eat with their hands! Kids will love this cornball dinner show
(and you may find yourself grinning as well).
Blue Man Group (p. 195): Yes, it's performance art and slightly surreal,
but most kids groove on the fact that you've got three grown-ups throw-
ing food, making a mess, and playing music really loud. My 7-year-old
went nuts for this show.
Mystère (p. 191): With the exception of Zumanity, you can take your kids
to any Cirque show and they'll be re-enacting it for months to come. But
Mystère, which follows the adventures of two oversized babies, is the fun-
niest and cheapest of the lot—a winning combination.
Popovitch Comedy Pet Theater (p. 188): Unless they're allergic to cats—
and the tricks they can do—the under-10 set will find this old-fashioned
circus delightful.
mishmash of juggling, silly costumes, a little dance, some acrobatics. All in all, I
think anyone under the age of 10 would probably find this show delightful. For
those a bit older: It all depends on your tolerance for whimsy and juggling.
Beyond magic shows and kitty circuses, there's Ronn Lucas 5 (in the V
Theater, in the Miracle Mile Shops; % 702/932 - 1818; www.desertpassage.com;
$ 25, but discounts were offered when he performed at the Rio and I'd be surprised
if they aren't available at this venue, too; Sat-Thurs 3pm), who may well be the
most successful living ventriloquist—a strange title, I'll admit—having performed
