The Natural Environment
The true servants of the most gracious are those who tread gently on the earth.
Quran (sura 25, verse 63)
With some application, you can have breakfast in the desert, lunch under a hilltop pine and
dinner eating fresh bananas from the subtropical Jordan Valley. There are not many places
in the world where the land exhibits such extraordinary diversity within such a compact
area. For the naturalist, this is what makes Jordan a dream. Thankfully Jordanian authorit-
ies have been quick to recognise the country's appeal in this regard and have put in place
several ecotourism projects aimed at encouraging nature-loving visitors. Whether you're a
raptor enthusiast or a casual fan of flowers, there is sure to be something to please you in
Jordan's modest acreage.
