aquifer water in Jordan. While out in the desert you may be lucky enough to try a zerb - a
Bedouin barbecue, cooked in an oven buried in the sand.

(snacks JD4; 6am-1am) Along the main road in Rum village, next to Alfi's climbing
shop (a grocery store), this local place serves tea and snacks, and is where the younger
Bedouin guides go to unwind.

selection of dishes is offered in the buffet between noon and 4pm (popular with tour
groups); outside this time, the restaurant is a buzzing meeting place for guides, weary
hikers and independent travellers who congregate over a non-alcoholic beer (JD2) and a
chicken sandwich (JD5).

quality silver items, embroidered bags and glass designs. Most items are made by local
women to whom most of the profits are returned. It's possible to visit the workshop in
Rum village (closed Friday and Saturday) - ask for directions at the Rest House. Almost
adjacent, the Bedouin Gallery Offline map sells a fine selection of textiles and Bedouin
goat-hair rugs.
