of Petra depends on the income from tourists and this is where responsible tourism begins.
Note that if you are visiting Petra as a day trip from Israel and the Palestinian Territories
the entry fee is JD90.
You can hire an
official guide
(JD50 for one to nine people)
from the visitor centre to
explain the sights between the entrance and the museum; these guides have a lot of know-
ledge and experience, and can bring a different dimension to your visit. Guided tours are
available in English, Spanish, French and Arabic.
Toilets
There are 'super-deluxe' toilets at the visitor centre, before the Theatre and near the Basin
Restaurant. Tea houses provide clean portaloos throughout the site - most people give a
tip of JD1 to the caretakers who maintain them. Please avoid going to the toilet elsewhere
as it spoils the site for others.

Getting Around
If you buy your ticket at the Petra Visitor Centre, a return horse ride for the 800m stretch
between the main entrance and the start of the Siq is included in your ticket (arrange a re-
