( 077 7996834; showbakcavehotel@yahoo.com; incl breakfast JD12 per person) For
an interesting experience, consider staying at the refurbished caves at the foot of the
castle. The caves have been in the owner's family for generations and he remembers his
grandparents living here. The interior of each shallow cave has been rendered and electric
lights help to make sense of the uneven interior space. Vague privacy is offered by flimsy
curtains but proper doors are planned. Shared bathrooms have hot water and dinner is
available for JD13. Warm in winter and cool in summer, the caves are an intriguing way
to get a feel for an ancient way of life.
There are a few grocery stores and cheap restaurants in Shobak village.

Getting There & Away
Occasional buses link Shobak village with Amman's south station (JD4, 2½ hours),
Aqaba and Karak. Some minibuses travelling between Wadi Musa and Ma'an also pass
through Shobak. There are less reliable minibuses between Shobak and Tafila (JD1.200,
one hour). For the 3km from Shobak village to the castle, you can charter a taxi (around
JD6 return including waiting time) or walk.
If driving, there are two well-signposted roads from the King's Highway to the castle
and there are signs from Shobak village.
