today's, but the frank and thoroughly likeable owner is the first to tell you as much. A cup
of coffee in the upper gallery of this tiny cafe is like tea in a carpet shop: an essential ex-
perience of being in town.
Quick Eats
There are a number of snack shops along Yamouk St and the King's Highway, selling
felafel, shwarma and roasted chicken. For freshly baked Arabic bread, head for the ovens
opposite the Church of the Apostles. There are several grocery stores in the centre of
town. Fresh fruit and veg for a picnic can be bought along King Abdullah St.
Don't miss out on the Arabic sweet shops, such as Al-Baraka Sweets Offline map
Google map (cnr Sameh al Farah & King Abdullah Sts) where you'll find round trays of
honey-drizzled pastries, some filled with local cheese, others with nuts and sugar.
There's little going on in Madaba after dark, except drinks in the bar at Queen Ayola,
Ayola Coffeeshop or poolside at the Mariam Hotel.
