yoghurt and hummus, sometimes with chicken) and sawani (meat or vegetables cooked on
trays in a wood-burning oven). Buy a souvenir of a good night out from the handicraft
shop within the complex and you'll have the added satisfaction of contributing to a good
cause.

11am-2am) Housed in a beautifully restored typical Madaba residence, and run by one of
the town's returning sons, this excellent restaurant has quickly become established as the
place to be at weekends. Serving typical Jordanian fare in a space that expands almost ma-
gically into unseen corners, the restaurant has the added charm of live music on Thursday
and Friday nights.

one place to relax after strolling round town. Alternatively, make a night of it over a dish
