has transformed this former dive into one of the most happening places in town. With a
bar offering happy hour and serving excellent food, the hotel looks set to become a fa-
vourite with travellers. The rooms are attractively decorated and two have balconies onto
the street - fun for people-watching in the heart of town.
St George's Church Pilgrim House$

For a characterful place to stay, consider this pilgrim house, attached to St George's
Church. Although it receives mainly Christian pilgrims, travellers can expect a warm wel-
come too. Rooms are ascetically simple. If you encounter the patron of the house, the
urbane and charming Father Innocent (self-confessedly 'Innocent by name, guilty by
every other means'), then your stay will find an extra blessing! Profits from the guest-
house are invested in the neighbouring church school. See the Directory for a voluntary
work opportunity here ( Click here ) .

KEEPING IT IN THE FAMILY
You may be wondering why it is that the newest hotel in Madaba has located itself right next to two of its competit-
ors, the Mariam and Salome. The answer lies in a photograph of grandmother Mariam in the dining room of the
Rumman Hotel. This formidable lady bequeathed the land to her four sons. The younger generation of cousins, all
belonging to the long-established Twarl family of Madaba, have inherited the passion for the hotel trade and have
transformed the visitor experience.
