Wadi Araba
Beyond the town of Safi, the Dead Sea Highway enters the arid landscape of Wadi Araba,
and the desert quickly reasserts its dominance. The odd sand dune encroaches upon the
road, the escarpment recedes to the distance and the sky assumes the epic quality of unin-
terrupted space. As such, there is not much to see along the final run into Aqaba - al-
though the sensation of driving uphill to the Red Sea is an odd one. You can make the
journey more interesting by diverting to the King's Highway, along the remarkable roads
to Karak, Tafila or Little Petra ( Click here for details of these routes).
