There is plenty of nightlife in Amman. The areas to head for are Jebel Amman, Shmeisani
and the western suburbs, where numerous fashionable cafes and bars abound, as well as a
few nightclubs and live houses that stay open until the early hours. For an authentic local
experience, the bars downtown are an eye-opener but are recommended for men only.
Otherwise nightlife here is limited to restaurants. Almost all bars serve food of some de-
scription.

Several bars in downtown, patronised almost exclusively by men, are tucked away in the
alleys near Al-Husseiny Mosque.

arak (if you dare) - if you've had a bit to drink, mind your head on the stairs on the way
