TUNNEL UNDER AMMAN
In ancient Roman Philadelphia, royalty considered it beneath them to mingle with the general public unless they had
to. To ease their path between the major sites, an underground tunnel was built to connect the Citadel high on the
hill with the Nymphaeum and the Theatre. While modern visitors to Amman might welcome having such access
without having to negotiate the streets of downtown, the tunnel's precise location and state of repair is a closely
guarded secret.
