Other polysaccharides found in nature include alginic acid that is isolated from certain brown
seaweeds [ 17 ]. The monomers of this polymer, similar to cellulose, are linked

A sulfate group bearing polysaccharide is isolated from another seaweed that is red in color.
This polymer is called carrageenan. It consists of two fractions [ 17 ]. The first one has the galactose
units linked though 1 and 3 or 1 and 4 carbons. A sulfate group is found at carbon 2 on some units:
