Rica Hotel Located at the harbor and offering a view of Vestfjorden, this
is one of Bodø's best hotels, built in 1986 and enlarged in 1990. Most of the
somberly furnished rooms have large writing desks. Only moderate in size,
rooms are comfortable and well maintained, with large, comfortable beds and
small bathrooms equipped with tub/shower combinations. The hotel has two
popular restaurants (see “Where to Dine,” below).

Bodø Hotell Opened in 1987, this hotel, located in the town center
about 2 1 ⁄ 2 blocks from the harbor, is known for its good value. Don't expect glam-
our—the venue is efficient, weather-tight, and without any particular decorative
imagination. But the bedrooms are modern, and although the bathrooms are
small, they are clean and come equipped with shower units.

Golden Tulip Rainbow Nordlys Hotel This modern hotel rises six floors
overlooking Bodø's harbor. Inside there is a collection of valuable contemporary
art--some of which is for sale. The guest rooms are contemporary with color
schemes of yellow with wooden floors, plus tiled bathrooms with tub/shower
combinations. Groups like this hotel, and the staff is genuinely kind to individ-
ual travelers as well. Egon, the hotel's restaurant, specializes in robust American
and Norwegian fare.

Skagen Hotel This discovery offers a lot of charm in a somewhat
bleak landscape. The hotel is the best in this part of Norway for arranging mem-
orable adventures, including wilderness camping and adventure weekends in
some of the most magnificently varied landscape reachable from Bodø. Other
adventures include deep-sea rafting, feeding sea eagles, fishing trips, canoeing,
rock climbing, and glacier walks. Bedrooms are midsize and comfortably fur-
nished, with well-maintained bathrooms with a shower and toilet. Rooms are
individually decorated, often in attractive cherrywood. Thoughtful extras here
include breakfast served at 6am or coffee and tea always available in the library.
That's not all: A free buffet is served nightly from 7 to 10pm.
