Cobalt Mines Wearing a special helmet and jacket, you can walk down the
arched galleries or tunnels into the mammoth quarries of yesterday. The mines,
which have been shored up and made safe, are on several levels. After miners
extracted ore from one level, they dug another. The tour ends at the center of
the mine, where massive rock walls rise on each side; after you've had a chance
to look around here, you'll be taken back up. Small museums at the site display
the tools and work methods used by miners 2 centuries ago. The drive here from
the glassworks takes about 25 minutes; allot 30 minutes for the actual visit.
