The Return/Ship Ratio by Location report allows users to analyze this key performance
indicator at different levels of detail based on the member selected by the users. The other feature
of note in here is that the ability to nest items allowed us to use a table in a singleton object to
focus the results to one single query row.
Also, shipping managers are interested in learning more about which specific products are being
returned by customers. They would like to see a report in which they can pick a product line,
product type, or individual product and see detailed return reasons for a selected time period
(year, quarter, or month). Figure 2.20 shows the completed design of this report.
Using a dimensional source, prompting should allow users to select items from both the Time and
the Product dimensions. As in the previous example, we will also display the time periods that are
one level below the selected item.
In the previous example, we used data items in our query definition to provide customized cal-
culations. These data items are created and used in the same manner if our data model is relational or
dimensional. IBM Cognos Report Studio allows you to create calculations that are uniquely dimen-
sional. This will help us create calculations that will create data items that work on sets or tuples.
